My story

or - how did I become a celebrant?

I was a teacher for many years, so my professional career centred around getting to know people. I loved teaching all ages from children in reception class to adults in Further Education, guiding and supporting them as they experienced the joys and challenges of learning. Without a doubt my favourite part of the job was how much fun I had with my students, and encouraging each person I encountered to celebrate their uniqueness and achievements.

Not long before I finished working in schools, my eldest daughter was married in a humanist wedding ceremony.  It was a beautiful day, full of love, and very personal to her and her husband. When I read about Humanism before her ceremony, I realised that I have been a humanist all my life. I was trained as a celebrant by Humanists UK not long afterwards. Their rigorous training courses, awarded the OCN London Quality Mark (for organisations that provide the highest standards of training and learning opportunities) are designed to ensure an exemplary level of service .

I’m a good listener and a creative story teller. I love the process of getting to know you and sharing ideas to plan the perfect occasion, and will write a script that is as serious, lighthearted, quirky or funny as you want it to be. I taught languages, too, so if you would like your ceremony to include elements of Italian, French or Russian, I can help. I'm willing and able to have a go at almost any language, even if it's not one I'm familiar with.

I am full of ideas and enthusiasm, and can guide you through the many options in front of you so that you end up with your ideal celebration. When your big day comes, your ceremony will be unique, reflecting your story, personality and aspirations, and I will lead it in a warm, professional manner.

Becoming a celebrant felt like a natural progression from a lifetime of working with people. I can think of no greater privilege or pleasure than working with you to craft the perfect ceremony marking an important point in your life.

Let's talk! I can't wait to meet you.
